Lewis Cook and Ellis Hadfield will contest the Super 16 final on the big PDC stage later this month after battling through a strong field to book their places in Wolverhampton.

Cook beat Tergel Khurelkhuu while Hadfield beat Arthur Allston in their respective semi-finals to set up their clash on the Grand Slam of Darts stage on November 16.

The two English 16-year-olds will battle for the £1,000 first prize, with the runner-up getting £500. The main prize, however, is the opportunity to play on the PDC stage.

They came through finals weekend in Aylesbury, playing some excellent darts along the way.

Cook, from Essex, was only beaten once in his seven group matches – when Harley Glycos averaged 92.69 – before beating Jase Green, Jack Johnson, Alfie O’Brien and Tergel in the knockout stage.

His 5-1 win over Tergel was his best performance of the weekend. Cook won all of his legs in six visits or fewer, going out in 18, 17, 16, 15 and 15 darts for an average of 88.29.

He broke with a 117 checkout in the opening leg, only for the Mongolian to break straight back with a 76 checkout. Cook broke again by taking out 87, then produced the first hold of the match in the fourth leg. He broke again with a 123 checkout – before sealing the win with a brilliant 161 checkout to cap a fine display of finishing power.

He had earlier sealed a 4-0 win over Johnson with a 12-dart leg, wrapping up the win with another 161 checkout.

Hadfield, from South Yorkshire Darts Academy, was an impressive 5-2 winner over Allston in his semi-final, averaging 89.18.

He kicked off with a 15-dart hold when taking out 72, before doubling his lead with a break. He raced into a 3-0 lead with a 14-dart leg, before Allston held to get his first leg on the board. Hadfield held again for 4-1, with Allston taking out 126 to stay in the contest. But Hadfield took out 98, with Allston waiting on double 10, to seal his place in the final in two weeks.

Hadfield had lost three of his seven group matches the previous day – but also produced a 100.20 average in his 2-0 win over Elias Heylen, hitting finishes of 145 and a perfect 170.

Big finishing was a key feature of Hadfield’s run to the final – he also took out 108 and 150 in his last-16 win over Owen Bryceland.

Four players had come through the group stage on Saturday with 100 per cent winning records – Tergel, Louis Jones, Jack Nankervis and Glycos, while Hadfield and Kyle Gilding were the two players to produce 100-plus averages.
