Four different players won the opening four Super 16 qualifying events in Aylesbury, with Tergel Khurelkhuu, Charlie Greensmith, Arthur Allston and Addison Hefferon all tasting glory.

The next weekend of action takes place in two weeks. The eight event winners from the two weekends, plus the top eight in the rolling order of merit will join players from the JDC’s academy system in an ultimate finals weekend on November 1-2.

From there, two players will qualify to play on the big PDC stage at the Grand Slam of Darts on November 16.

EVENT 1

Tergel Khurelkhuu was the first event winner, booking his place at the finals weekend, as he defeated Alfie Cook 5-4 in the final.

The 14-year-old from Mongolia was taken to a deciding leg in four of his six matches during the event – but had enough quality and character to emerge victorious.

He beat Will Fisher and Toby Clements 3-2 in the opening two matches, before a 3-0 win over Jake Hobbs and a 3-1 victory over Arthur Allston in which Tergel averaged 87.37 and hit a 13-dart leg.

He then beat Charlie Greensmith 4-3 in the semi-final, finally getting the first break of the match in the deciding leg. Greensmith led 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2, with both players hitting 15-dart legs, before Tergel held throw and then went out in six visits to advance to the final.

In the final, he averaged 88.08 and recovered from being broken in the third leg, breaking straight back and then holding with back-to-back 13-darters. Cook held for 3-3, before Tergel took out 112 with Cook waiting on double 10. Cook then held in 14 darts to force a deciding leg, only for Tergel – who opened the leg with visits of 134, 129 and 134 – to hold on for victory.

Cook reached the final with a 4-3 win over Riley Emery in the semi-finals. Cook led 2-0, breaking with a 146 checkout and then holding throw, before Emery hit back with a 112 checkout and a break to draw level. Cook broke back, Emery broke in 14 but Cook broke again to progress to the final.

EVENT 2

Charlie Greensmith won Event 2, with the 16-year-old from Newark beating Toby Clements 5-1 in the final.

Greensmith performed consistently throughout the event, averaging north of 80 in five of his seven matches.

Despite losing the first leg in the final when Clements took out 68 to break throw, Greensmith hit back in style. He broke straight back, then took out 95 for a 15-darter, before checking out 78 for a 15-dart break of throw. Another 70-plus checkout put him 4-1 up, then Greensmith wrapped up the win with another break.

He had earlier beaten Ellis Hadfield 4-0 in the semi-final and Alfie Cook 3-1 in the quarters. Arguably Greensmith’s best performance of the event came in the last 64 when he beat Freddie Duffy 3-1 with an average of 89.37. Greensmith won his three legs in 16, 16 and 14 darts.

Clements earned his spot in the final with an excellent 4-1 win over Arthur Allston, in which he averaged 97.17.

Clements kicked off with a 103 finish to break throw in 15 darts, before holding in 13 darts. Allston won the next leg to halve the deficit, but Clements hit double 16 at the first time of asking, then took out 87 for a 15-dart break that sealed his place in the final.

Arthur Allston, the JDC Foundation Tour Phase One winner, added a Super 16 event win to his CV as he beat Tergel Khurelkhuu in the Event 3 final.

Both finalists hit 100-plus averages earlier in the event as they produced the highest of standards, with Allston winning 5-2 in the final.

The 15-year-old from Essex kicked off the event with a 100.20 average in a 3-0 win over Max Harris, throwing legs of 14, 17 and 14 darts.

He then beat Sid Hopcroft, Declan Cragg and Dylan Patel to set up a semi-final showdown with Jake Hobbs, which he won 4-1, wrapping things up with a 14-dart leg.

Tergel averaged 100.20 in his last-16 win over Rico Anderson, going out in 16, 15 and 14 darts. He took out 124 in the second leg and wrapped up the victory by checking out 78.

After beating Ben Townley 3-1 with an 84 average in the quarters, he beat Louis Jones 4-3 in the semi-final. The match ebbed and flowed, with Jones gaining the first break in a run of four successive breaks of throw, before Tergel held to reach the final.

In the final, Tergel led 2-0 after kicking off with a brilliant 11-dart leg (180, 140, 100, 81), but Allston rallied and hit back to win five legs on the bounce, sealing the win with a stunning 118 checkout.

EVENT 4

Addison Hefferon wrapped up the weekend, winning the final event to book his place in the finals on the first weekend of November.

The 11-year-old beat Charlie Greensmith 5-4 in a thrilling final to secure his spot for a chance to play on the PDC stage later that month.

To Hefferon’s credit, his quarter-final, semi-final and final all went to deciding legs, as he showed real guts to win the event.

In the final, he led 4-2 before Greensmith rallied to draw level, before regaining his composure to take out 87 for the title.

His best performance of the event came in the semis, when he beat Alfie Armitage 4-3 while averaging 88.15. After Armitage and Hefferon exchanged holds of throw, Armitage took out 58 for a 15-dart hold with Hefferon waiting on double 8 for a 13-darter. Hefferon then hit back-to-back 15-darters to move 3-2 up, only for Armitage to break back and draw level. Hefferon then broke throw again to seal the win. Armitage had earlier averaged 95.94 in a 3-0 last-32 win over Ellis Hadfield.

Greensmith, who enjoyed an excellent weekend, had another great run to reach the final. He beat Arthur Allston, Louis Jones and Tergel Khurelkhuu along the way. Both he and Tergel averaged north of 83 in the semi-final, with Greensmith winning 4-2.
