SCOTLAND are the junior darts champions of the world.
Scotland A beat Ireland B 4-0 in the final of the JDC’s Junior World Cup of Darts here in Gibraltar on a stunning day for Scottish darts.
Logan Gilmour, Kyle Davidson, Sophie McKinlay and Mitchell Lawrie will go down in history as the players who took Scotland to the top of the world.
But so much credit is also due to Craig Mitchell, who has inspired a generation of young Scottish darters and transformed the nation’s fortunes in youth darts.
After ending England’s two-year dominance in the event in an epic and emotional semi-final, Scotland had plenty in the tank in the final.
In fact, they dropped only two legs. Gilmour got them off to a winning start against Sean McKeon, before Davidson doubled the lead against Jamie French.
McKinlay, who hit the winning dart in the 4-3 semi-final win over England, continued her fine form with a 2-0 win against Callum Coade.
And then Lawrie – so often Scotland’s talisman during the day – hit the sweetest double 5 of his life to complete the whitewash and seal the world title.
Scotland had earlier beaten Norway, China B, Belgium A, Spain and England A before clinching their first ever JDC Junior World Cup of Darts title.
