SUNDAY PREVIEW
The Volt Series 6 regional finals are taking place this weekend, with players looking to book their spots at the national finals in Bristol in September – and an appearance on the big stage at the PDC’s World Grand Prix.
After four regional finals took place yesterday, six more will be played today – in the North of England, Scotland, South East England, North West England, North East England and Wales.
North East
Jack Taylor goes in as the No 1 seed after winning six titles and reaching four further finals during the league phase. Taylor plied his trade in Leeds, Harrogate and Selby during the series, and goes into today’s regional finals marginally ahead of Harrison Meggitt, who picked up five event wins and reached a further five finals. Meggitt was beaten by George Buckley in Hull last time out – and Buckley goes into today’s regional finals as the No 4 seed. He finished behind Ben Pilgrim, who won three titles and reached another final.
North West
Harvey Thompson leads the way going into the regional finals. He won eight titles in total during the league phase, including four successive events in Preston and Fleetwood. Ben Lundstrom is the second-ranked player in the North West after he collected five event wins and three more final appearances, operating in Preston, Runcorn, Burnley and Warrington. Tom Partington kicks off today’s regional final as the No 3 seed after a string of strong performances, including three event wins, in Nelson, Preston and Warrington.
North
Oliver Meikle is the No 1-seeded player after a league phase that saw him win four titles and reach four further finals in Seaham and Peterlee. His closest challenger was Jayce Dawson, who bagged one title in Stokesley and reached a further three finals. Lennon Ruddock goes in as the No 3 seed after winning three titles and reaching one further final, while Jack Slater also won three events and finished runner-up in another.
SOUTH EAST
Freddie Greenwood is the top-ranked player in the South East after a hugely impressive league phase, in which he won six events and was a beaten finalist in two others. He warmed up for the regional finals by winning his most recent Volt in Gillingham, beating Charlie Smith – another qualifier for finals day – in the final. Freddie Rowlands is the No 2 seed in the South East after taking three titles and reaching two additional finals in Gosport and Waterlooville. Arjun Sharma goes in as No 3 seed after winning of the eight events he entered in Waltham Abbey and Bushey, while Cooper Harvey is one place further back after a strong series in Maidstone and Gillingham.
SCOTLAND
Cody Douthwaite is the No 1-ranked player in Scotland after impressing in Glenrothes across the league phase, while Robert Sutherland Jr will fancy his chances after qualifying in second.
Wales
Spencer Thomas led the way in qualifying, winning 10 events and reaching another four finals, while James Prettyjohn won five titles and reached a further seven finals.
