UNBEATEN LAWRIE AND BRYCELAND FLY FLAG FOR SCOTLAND IN JPL

Unbeaten Lawrie and Bryceland fly flag for Scotland in JPL

Mitchell Lawrie and Owen Bryceland both kept up their unbeaten records in the Junior Power League – and hit 95-plus averages – as the Scots enjoyed an excellent night in Bristol.

Lawrie, the overall JPL leader after five matches, beat 2025 champion Jack Nankervis 5-0 with a 95.13 average. Lawrie stated his intent from the off, hitting a 76 checkout to open the match with a 15-dart hold, before taking out 122 to break Nankervis’ throw in another 15-dart leg. He took out 76 again to hold in 14 darts for a 3-0 lead, before breaking in six visits to move within one leg of victory, which he sealed with a comfortable hold.

Bryceland beat Lewis Cook 5-2 with a 95.86 average as Cook averaged 92.12 himself – the third highest of the evening. Bryceland stormed into a 4-0 lead, kicking off with a 12-dart leg (96, 140, 171, 94) and then breaking in 15. He held throw for 3-0, then broke again in 12 darts with a 108 checkout to move within touching distance of the win. Cook briefly gave him some food for thought as he broke in 14 darts and then held on double 16 to make it 4-2. But the in-form 12-year-old held in 14 darts to clinch the win.

Lawrie and Bryceland are separated in the table by Archie Self, who is second following his 5-3 win over Jack Johnson. Johnson kicked off with an excellent 13-dart hold but Self responded by winning three legs on the spin before Johnson held to move back to within one leg. The next two legs went with throw before Self sealed the win with a 108 checkout.

Lex Paeshuyse got his first win of the JPL season with a 5-2 victory over Tergel Khurelkhuu. The Belgian broke his Mongolian opponent’s throw in the opening leg and then held for a 2-0 lead. Tergel held throw and then broke to make it a level game but Paeshuyse broke again with an 86 checkout and then held for a 4-2 lead. He had his chance to go back to within one leg but Paeshuyse closed out the win.

In the other boys’ game on the evening, Christian Ennis was a 5-2 winner against Kaya Baysal. Ennis is in fourth place after playing some excellent darts, not least in taking out 120 and 97 in legs where he broke throw.

In the girls’ event, Lola Wheeler and Lucy Shepherd will be joining Macy Gibbons and Rebecca Allen at finals day after the group stage concluded.

Gibbons signed off with five wins from five as she beat Wheeler 4-1 with an 82.13 average – the fifth highest average of the night across both boys’ and girls’ events. She opened with a 15-dart hold, before Wheeler hit a brilliant 132 checkout to draw level. Gibbons held for 2-1, then broke with a 100 checkout, and saw out the win with another hold of throw.

Shepherd secured her spot at finals day with a 4-2 win over Wheeler – with the only hold of throw coming in the fifth leg.

In the evening’s other match, Kirsten Casley signed off from her first JPL season in style with a 4-0 win over fellow Welsh player Yaz Ruck-Havard.
