Arthur Allston continued the excellent form he showed in winning the Foundation Tour as he claimed the JDC Ireland Open title in Dublin tonight.

The 15-year-old from Essex in England beat compatriot Oscar Saxton 6-3 in Tallaght to take the title.

‘King Arthur’ from Bradfield, who attends the Sudbury Youth Elite 1 Darts Academy, finished 12 points clear at the top of the Foundation Tour rankings last month.

He picked up where he left off with a string of fine performances, dropping only two legs in five matches to reach the final.

He beat five Irish players on his way to the final, opening with averages of 81 and 82 in wins against Con O’Reilly and Jack Courtney.

He then beat Allen Moore 4-0 and Shay Feeney 4-1, before producing his best performance of the event in a 5-0 semi-final win over Tyler O’Connor.

Allston averaged 85.40 and produced finishes of 82, 88 and 82 again as he completed a thoroughly impressive passage to the final.

In the final he met Saxton, who had reached a Foundation Tour semi-final earlier this year.

Allston led 3-0 and 5-2, and when Saxton briefly threatened a revival by getting back to 5-3, Allston produced a 13-dart leg including back-to-back 180s.

Saxton produced some very good darts on his run to the final, averaging 82.83 in his second-round win over Jesse Cartmill.

He progressed to the final by beating Shea Shacklady 5-4 in the semis from 4-2 down, reeling off legs of 17, 18 and 18 darts when the heat was on.

The best-performing home player on the evening was Tyler O’Connor, who reached the semis, while Matthew Clifford, Shay Feeney, Jase Green and Jamie Farrell were all quarter-finalists.
