Keane Barry became the first winner of the JDC's International Open event out in Gibraltar in a thrilling final with Scotlands Nathan Girvan. Posting a match average of 100.5 and a tournament average of over 90, the young Irishmen was pushed to a last leg decider in the final. With early round victories over Englands Sean Craig and New Zealands Jack Sheppard, Barry would encounter the current JDC World champion in the Quarter finals. With a 83.5 match average disposed of the World champion 4-0.
With a victory over Tomas Houdek and blasting in a 90.2 match average could Barry be stopped?.
In the final he would meet Scotlands Nathan Girvan, and what a final. Leg for leg in the early stages of this best of 11 final until Barry put a run of three legs on the bounce to lead 4 legs to 2. The Scot hit straight back and with two further leg wins it would go the distance. Ultimately it would be Barry who would claim the trophy and the £1500 prize fund.
